WHO WE ARE
The Working Women's Golf Association is:
- A league of amateur women golfers sanctioned through the Arizona Golf Association (AGA).
- A group of golfers of any age that enjoy playing together.
- A group of golfers that maintain an accurate and timely handicap for themselves by following the World Handicap System through the United States Golf Association (USGA) utilizing the Golf Handicap Information Network (GHIN).
- A group of golfers that follow the Rules of Golf, to the best of their knowledge, and are willing to learn more about the Rules of Golf from their own and others’ experiences.
- A mix of competitive and recreational golfers who respect each other and those personal preferences around the game of golf.
- A group of women who understand that we all were new golfers at one time and didn’t learn about golf or get better without help from other, more experienced golfers.
- A group of women with a wide range of physical abilities, diverse background and experiences, varied ages and skillsets - both on and off the course.
WHAT WE DO: WE GOLF!
Our tournaments are scheduled once a month on a Sunday, because at one point in time, most of us worked full-time. We play the Phoenix area municipal courses because they are reasonably priced, allow us to book our events a year in advance, and understand that women golfers are not necessarily the slowest people out on the golf course! Event sites include: Aguila, Cave Creek, Encanto, and Grand Canyon University Golf Courses. We get and maintain a handicap so we can play against any other golfer equitably. If this is unfamiliar to you, we have people that will help you get your handicap established and show you how to keep it up to date. Not posting all your scores timely and accurately only hurts YOU. Most of our events are flighted and use the World Handicap System recommended handicap (net) so that you are competing against players of similar ability. Prize money is paid out to at least 50% of the field. The game for each event varies and flight winners receive pro shop credit at the selected golf course(s). We play “ready golf” by the rules in order to make the game fair and fun for everyone. Our motto is “FUN FUN FUN!”, but it takes everyone to make that happen.
